Peter Mayer recognized for best PR campaign again

This past weekend, Peter Mayer’s public relations department won first place for the best PR campaign for the fifth consecutive year at the annual Press Club of New Orleans awards ceremony. Our work for The Advocate New Orleans Edition, which was launched in 2012, earned our team one of the highest honors in our field – First Place: PR Campaign.

The Press Club award is given to “an outstanding public relations campaign wrapped around a program, promotion or issue for a corporation, institution or nonprofit organization,” and Peter Mayer is honored to have received this award once again for its outstanding work in communications. Peter Mayer has entered its award-winning campaign in the Southern Public Relations Federation’s Lantern Awards, which are presented at its annual conference in October.

Previous wins in this category include our work promoting the 75th anniversary of the Vieux Carré Commission, the grand opening of “Living with Hurricanes: Katrina and Beyond,” and The National World War II Museum’s three-attraction expansion.

About this year’s award-winning work:

After The Times-Picayune announced its decision to print only three days a week, The Advocate, a Baton Rouge daily paper, answered community pleas to intervene and launched a new daily paper in New Orleans. Because of our recognized expertise in representing culture, we were asked to help launch The Advocate New Orleans Edition.

Our public relations team organized meetings with influential people and other organizations around the city to secure influential public support. When the team drafted a letter to local media and the people of New Orleans asking them to subscribe, the Advocate’s phones rang off the hook. During the first week of the launch, a press conference was held at the iconic New Orleans entertainment venue Rock ‘n’ Bowl, and our group set up street teams around the city to hand out free editions. The Advocate’s goal of receiving 10,000 subscribers within the first six months of the launch was achieved in the first week. For details on our work for The Advocate, click here.
